Railway Foot Bridge Osney
This footbridge that passes over the railway at the end of Osney Lane is closed for the next couple of weeks for what is called essential maintenance which is a big job from the looks of things. In this photo you can see that they have removed all the steps on the Oxford side of the bridge, to cross the railway now you will have to use the Botley Road. Not sure the age of the bridge but I would think it has been around for few years.
You do now and then see the old spelling of Osney as Oseney, which is still correct however less often used.
Link to the last time this bridge was on my blog

Busted Busking
The serious side of busking in Oxford, who’s got the best spot and has not been officially licensed by the City Council! This photo was taken in the centre of Cornmarket today August Bank Holiday, so lots of tourist out and about. From what I saw one of the more regular buskers was not happy that what looked like a family of musicians had the best spot and the police were called to check if they had a licence to busk in the city centre, which they did not so they had to pack up.

Queuing for Punts at Head Of The River
On the last bank holiday of the year before Christmas summer arrives and when you have a nice fine day where do you head, to the river of course. The River Thames was like the M1 with narrow boats, swimmers, rowing boats and punts all enjoying the weather. At the Head of The River at Folly Bridge if you wanted a punt you had to wait your turn and get in line.

Funny Fungi
Not sure what type of fungi this is, however I found it on a fence post in Boars Hill and it looked like someone had stuck it on the top of this post. The position is obviously great for it as it is looking nice and big and in a very healthy state. Anyone know why these things just start growing in this type of location?
On a completely different subject I spotted this bumper sticker which I think is typical at the moment.

The Brewery Gate St Thomas Street
I am not sure why I am having a little run on Oxford Pubs? Maybe it is the weather. Anyway this pub is called The Brewery Gate, it is in St Thomas Street just behind the Oxford Castle which you can see in the photo. It is quiet pub off the main road and is at the gate of the old Morrells Lion Brewery which closed in 1998. The Brewery Gate has recently had a lick of new paint and it is one of the cheaper places to get a pint outside of the college bars.

The Cake Shop Window
Another great shop which is just across from the Fasta Pasta store that was the daily photo in July is The Cake Shop. Here any time of the day you can see shoppers stopped by the window watching the staff decorating an assortment of cakes, and the designs are just great and done so well you would not want to eat the cake. Have a look at a few of the others here.

Property Selling Fast in Oxford
This is a common sight in Oxford, property is never for sale for too long before the SOLD sticker is put over the for sale sign. Reports in the news last weeks are suggesting that property prices in University Town in the UK are rising faster than the national average, which is good if you are in one of these towns already but very hard if you are not.

How The Colleges Make Money In The Summer
The colleges are always they do not have enough money, which I am sure is never true. Anyway one of the ways the colleges are raising money apart from hiring their grounds out for movie sets, is to let the out for weddings, which is what Mansfield College have done this weekend.

Chapel Exeter College
This is a photo of the Chapel within Exeter College. It has recently been completely restored on the inside which I am sure mist have cost a fortune but looks absolutely great, well worth a look if you are in the area. The little bit of grass that you can see in this photo is were Inspector Morse died in the Colin Dexter series of the same name.

Happy Birthday India
Happy Birthday India, 60 years of Independence celebrated today across India. In central Oxford we have an old building that when you look at it closely you can see it once had a close attachment with India. On the corner of Holywell and Catte Street you have the Universities History Faculty, however if you look closely at the building you can see that it used to be the ‘Indian Institute’ and you can see the building is decorated with elephants and tigers. On the weathercock you can also see an elephant, not a lot of visitors stop to look at the details of this building to understand its past. You can just see in this photo the wording above the entry 'INDIAN INSTITUTE'

Redcliff Camera Appreciation
Sometimes when you see the same thing everyday you do not really appreciate how visitors seeing it for the first time really think. That is what I was thinking today when I was walking around the centre of Oxford with all the visitors taking in this wonderful city and snapping away with their cameras, I had to join them and get another photo of the Radcliff Camera.

Bicycles Obstructing Path Will Be Removed
Saw this today, a sign on the fence of the Examinations Hall in High Street informed everyone that bike obstructing the path would be removed, and along the whole fence are a string of bikes locked up, with the one at the very end locked up at head height. Bikes and Oxford will always be a couple, and they will always provide great photo’s, least I hope so.

Not Moooving Anywhere
These cows on the edge of the Oxford near the village of Wytham have had there movements limited with the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Surrey late on Thursday. The Government has banned the movement of all livestock within the United Kingdom in order to try and contain foot and mouth spreading. The farmers in Oxford are having a bad run with the flooding a last week and now this, lets hope that this can be resolved quickly.

Sunny Drinks by the River
The sun has arrived in Oxford, and these lucky people are enjoying a drink at one of Oxford riverside pubs, The Head of The River, on the River Thames close to the city centre. Lets hope that this weather can continue into the weekend.

Framers Market
Raining again in Oxford, which is not very good for the visitors or the stall holders of the fortnightly farmers market held at Gloucester Green this morning. The farmers market is where local producers can sell their produce directly to locals and is well worth a visit to get fresh in season local items.

Sailing on Farmoor
Farmoor Reservoir is just over the 5km rule that I set for all photo taken to be in. It is where Oxford sources its drinking water as well as being a place for recreation and leisure. Oxford Sailing Club use the man made lake to teach sailing and have club competitions,. You can also fish, bird watch or just walk around the reservoir. School holidays in the UK, so today there was youngsters learning to sail.
