Happy Birthday India, 60 years of Independence celebrated today across India. In central Oxford we have an old building that when you look at it closely you can see it once had a close attachment with India. On the corner of Holywell and Catte Street you have the Universities History Faculty, however if you look closely at the building you can see that it used to be the ‘Indian Institute’ and you can see the building is decorated with elephants and tigers. On the weathercock you can also see an elephant, not a lot of visitors stop to look at the details of this building to understand its past. You can just see in this photo the wording above the entry 'INDIAN INSTITUTE'
