OCS Boot Repair Department
OCS Boot Repairing Department 1933 - St Marys Road, East Oxford
A simplistic Cape Dutch style building set back off St Marys Road. The squatters have moved in and the flytippers deposited. The building in front has been demolished leaving this facade visible.
What was the OCS Boot Repairing Department? Can anyone help with any further information please?

Abandoned Bikes
Abandoned bicycles clogging up the bike racks. Ever found it difficult to lock up your bike? It doesn't just happen in the city centre. These photos were taken on the Iffley Road and The Plain. I gather there is a scheme afoot to remove bikes at the end of the term as students leave, and recycle them.
At present the council tags them, to warn of their impending removal. Sometimes the tagged bikes just get left behind and are still there the year after.
Lets hope this new scheme is more effective.

A Scheduled Ancient Monument
Old LMS swingbridge behind the Said Business School
This dates from the time of two railway companies bringing trains into Oxford. The Buckinghamshire Railway Company (later became the LMS) could not get agreement to come in to Oxford via the Great Western Railway lines, so they had to come into Rewley Road station (now under the Said Business School) via new lines over a variety of channels. The swingbridge was one of their solutions. It is now listed as an historic ancient monument - take a closer look at the sign below:
The swing bridge has recently been cleared of vegetation. It looks like they are planning on doing something with it. I wonder what it could be .

The Outdoor Pool
The outdoor swimming pool at Hinksey.
A sunny lunchtime and look at the numbers of swimmers! A lovely facility and apparently Fusion are going to invest in the re-lining of the pool over the winter.
Today it could be renamed 'The Green Plunge' due to the harmless algae bloom the pool seems to grow after heavy rainfall.

Duke's Cut
A new pub with an old name. Until recently this was Rosie O'Gradys and now looks considerably smartened up, externally at least. I have been trying to work out what exactly is the Dukes Cut. It appears it is the stretch of water running from Kings Lock north of Oxford to the Oxford Canal. But I am unsure if it refers to the canal stretch just north of the old canal basin - anyone else know?

No Attention To Detail Anymore
Noticed this today at Wycliffe Hall at the start of the Banbury Road I noticed the detail on this down pipe, the date when this was made 1913. Why don't builders today put this detail and effort in to there work anymore?
I am going on a drive to Moscow shortly with a couple of mates from work, so I have put out an SOS on the blog for any locals to continue with the Daily Photo while I am away, and Vanessa has offered to give you all a different view till the 12th of July, which I am very grateful, so I am now looking for another person to look after the site from the 12th for a week. While I am away you can see what I am up to here.

Iceland Cowley Centre
Never been into Iceland in the Cowley Shopping centre before today, everything appears to be only £1, well most things anyway. I think that in the current economic climate that we are all in at the moment Iceland and the likes are going to attract more customers.
I will be on holidays for a month starting mid June, if anyone is interested in continuing the Oxford Daily Photo photo's while I am away I would be happy for anyone who is in Oxford to do this, even if it is for a week if I find a few people, please email me if you can help out.

Marks and Spencer At Oxford Train Station
I posted a photo a couple of months ago of the Marks and Spencer store at the Oxford station when it was still under construction and I have not been back to the station to today, and it is now opened. Well looking at the old post it was back in January, so it is no surprise that the store has opened, the whole station has had a face lift and is looking newer and fresher.

Oxford University's Tiananmen Square Support
Noticed a few members of the University's Amnesty International Group held a very peaceful protest at St Giles this evening, marking the twenty years since the uprising in Tiananmen Square which has been suppressed in the China Media.
