Road Works Continue On The Iffley Road

Look at this, no cars on the Iffley Road. There has been road works with all the delays and inconvenience that major works like this cause since the 9th of January. I am sure that the residents and users of this major arterial road will be glad with the Olympic Torch arrives in the UK, that is when all road works in the UK must be completed by. Didn't know that the original name of Iffley Road was Henley Road.

Beware Of Banbury Road Works

The road works have moved from the Woodstock Road to Banbury Road, I am not sure how long it took to get the gas pipes down the Woodstock Road, but it was long time. This afternoon while trying to get to Summertown I was caught in the chaos near Parks Road, I would try and avoid this area for awhile if you can, I even think the buses are using Woodstock Road it is that bad at the moment.

Road Works In St Aldate

If you are in the road repair business then Oxford is the place you need to be, as we have more road works than any other place I have lived, and if you run out of work you can always redo what you have just done.  As you can see from this photo, St Aldate in front of the Town Hall is having major works at the moment.  This is effecting all the buses and users of the not only this area but those leading up to it, stay away from the High Street if you can it is murder at the moment in this area.

Magdalen College Road Works

There is always road works in Oxford, today they are working close to Magdalen Bridge in front of Magdalen College, which is a very busy spot at the best of times. As you can see from the photo this is not small job with half the road dug up already. Lets hope that they have not problems and finish the works on time.

More Road Works In St Aldate's

More road works in St Aldate's, at the moment it starts at the Post Office and heads down the hill past the front of Christ Church College, which is not going to be nice for all the tourist wanting to get a nice photo of the entry to the college and The Old Tom bell tower?  Anyway I think it is a summer thing in Oxford, we must have a major city centre road dug up during the summer months every year.  This photo was taken early this morning about 7am so not a lot of traffic, wait till rush hour on Monday, it will be a different picture altogether.

Redbridge Road Works Continue

Down the end of the Abingdon Road at Redbridge there has been work raising the hight of the railway bridge since before Christmas. The Oxford County Council's website states that the works should be complete by the end of the month, but I am not sure if this dead line will be met as this morning there looks like alot of work that still needs to be done. Lets hope that they are on time as this is a total road closure and I am sure the residents of Kennington would like to see this road link to Oxford reopened.

Road Works Started in St Thomas Street Oxford

Beware all you Rat Runners, St Thomas Street in the city centre will have road works for the next 8 weeks. For all of you who don’t know were St Thomas Street is, it is right behind the new Oxford Castle/Prison development in the city centre.

Recession Proof Career

To all the younger readers of this blog, if you are looking at getting into a recession proof career this has to be it, Road Works.  These guys will dig up any stretch of road for up to a year at a time and then go straight onto the next bit.  They started in Cornmarket about three years ago and are now just down the road in St Aldate's, this must be the business to be in. Look at 28/02/08 and you can see my photo of them just up the road.

Delays Expected Hayford Hill

This is not what you want to see when you are sitting in your car stuck in traffic on the Ring Road. The sign reads that for the next 26 weeks the roundabout at Hayford Hill is going to be undergoing major redevelopment and you should expect long delays during busy rush hours in this area. Like I have said before, if you are in the road repair business in Oxford you will never be out of work. Expect Six months of delays in this area, I bet Sainsbury's are not too happy about this right on there door step. Have you been effected by this road works?

The End In Walton Street

Taken this afternoon at the front of the Phoenix Picture House in Walton Street. Walton Street has been having a little road works between Oxford University Press and this cinema, so I guess this sign was left over from that project. They are screening Moonrise Kingdom at the moment, the poster is on the left of the photo above the bike, anyone seen it?

A34 Viaduct Road Works

The heavy equipment was out in force today at the Viaduct replacement on the A34. This work is costing over £44 million pounds to complete and is not expected to be completed until the middle of 2010, so I am hoping to get out this way again and take another couple of photo's.

George Street Oxford Closed

That is a major road closure. For a whole month from tomorrow on one of Oxford busiest bus streets, George Street the road will be closed for works by Thames Water. Not sure if this is just for the buses or if cyclist will also be effected?  You have been warned, George Street will be closed to traffic for a month!

Following on from my photo the other day of the Radcliffe from Walton Street today I was on the Woodstock Road and managed to get a photo of the works from this angle.  You can see the scales that weigh the lorries as they leave with all the debris from the old Hospital.

Frosty Morning

Plenty of frost about this morning,  and I was up late due to the works Christmas Party last night and I still managed to see a lot.  Be careful on the road over the next few days in the UK as there is will a lot of frost and ice around.   BBBRRRR!!

More Work In Summertown

There is always road and pavement work going on in Oxford. I was thinking that we had seen the last of the works in Summertown early Summer, but no, this afternoon I noticed out the front of Savills Estate Agent they are at it again. Not sure what is happening now, but it looks like alot of digging is going on.

Traffic Hold Up In Oxford

There has been traffic congestion in and around Oxford for the last couple of days due to what looks like major works going on at the start of the Botley Road near St Frideswide's Square. This yellow pumping truck has been here all week, and as you can see from this photo is blocking up one lane. Took this photo from the pedestrian bridge to the train station.

Mc Donalds Customer Car Park Camera's

Went to McDonald's on the Botley Road this afternoon, not normally a McDonald's person myself but just felt like a milkshake.  Could not help but notice the very high tech system that they have to records the cards coming and going from the time limited car park.  No parking wardens needed here, the camera's record you number plate details on the way in and then on the way out, and the computer works out how long you have been parked for.  Any longer than 90mins and you will have a fine sent to you at home, not sure how much the fine would be but I am sure it is not going to be cheap.
