Quiet Lane Outskirts of Oxford

You are never too far from the country side in Oxford.  This photo taken just under 5km from Carfax up in Boars Hill, could be so far from the bustle of the city centre.   Indian Commissioner Visited Oxford today.

Eat Thomas Cook

Remember this photo?  Well I think the guys at EAT have had a few problems cause even after they changed the sign to say February today when I walked past they are still along way from opening.  Anyway lets hope that they get up and running soon, I am going to keep you all posted on this one!

Oxford Folk Festival Morris Dancers

The 5th Oxford Folk Festival is well under way today, with Morris Dancers from all over England putting on great public displays in every corner of the City.  This dancer was seen in Cornmarket, but there was dancing in Broad Street and the Castle Complex all day.  Most pubs this weekend will be hosting a Folk Band over the three day event.

Keble College Oxford, Mowing The Lawn

Well, it is that time of the year again, when you have to mow the lawn a little more often than you did over winter, if you did at all over winter.  The University with all the Colleges, Parks, and Sporting Grounds must cover 100's of miles each Summer mowing all the lawns they have.  Anyway this guy was walking up and down today mowing Liddon Quad at Keble College, which like all the College lawns always look the greenest of green all year round.

Brasenose College Old Quadrangle

Most photos of the Old Quadrangle at Brasenose College you see are taken from the other end of the Quadrangle so that you can see the Radcliffe Camera in the photo, however when I visited the college today the sun was not right to get that photo.I took this photo so you can see the large sun dial on the wall, and as you can also see today you could use the dial as it was very sunny this morning.   Brasenose College can trace it's foundations as a college back to 1509, however it could be older than that, it is in a great location right in the middle of the city. Well worth a visit, open most afternoons to the public.

Snow in Spring

Snow on the 6th of April in Oxfordshire is not that common these days.  However in the early hours of this morning we did get about 10cm of snow, as seen in this photo taken just of Opens Road in the City Centre.  This gentleman was out walking his dog to get his Sunday papers and told me that in the park the snow was very deep, he was said that he thought it was Spring not Winter, but the dog was enjoying it.

Traffic Delays At Oxford Mound

Work has started on repairing the Oxford Mound after a land slip during heavy rain last year.  The council are saying that it will cost about £150000 to repair the Oxford Mound in New Road taking three months to complete so I will revisit this area to keep you guys up to date.  Part of New Road has been closed to allow access and equipment in and out.  Have a look at a photo of the Mound take in 2007 with the covers on.

Oxford Central Library Staircase

Was in the Library today and decided to take a photo of the staircase that leads you back down to the Westgate Centre, which is very 1970 looking, you know all that "Feature" brick.  Anyway another reason that I took this photo is that as apart if the Westgate redevelopment we will be getting a new Central Library in Oxford.  While the redevelopment takes place I have been told that the Library will move in to Macclesfield House in New Road, I think they have already started to get this new area ready for the library to move into.

Garden Sculputers Peacocks

Was out and about today in North Oxford and came across this Peacock sculptured out of a hedge.  It looked very nice and I am sure it takes a little work on the owner part to get and keep this trimmed as apart of a living hedge.

Another Westgate Shopping Centre Store Closing

Spotted this today "Every Thing Must Go" on the walls of Sports World in the Westgate Shopping Centre.  I have seen this before with this store for it to only open up a again few days later selling the same items under a different name.  Saying that most of the stuff in the store was heavily discounted, so if you are after any sporting apparel maybe your time to get a bargain.

B4031 Oxford

Ooop's I posted this to the wrong blog site and it was not until a friend said photo yesterday that I realised that I made a mistake...

Anyway, Outside the main entrance to County Hall in New Road Oxford you will see this old metal directional sign from the B4031 from the North of the County.  You can see that Banbury was 6 1/2 miles from where this sign was taken.  I think I will have another look at this and find out more about this sign and how it come to be out the front of County Hall.

More Plates in Town today, this time it was the Americans, have a look.

Rain and Hail Today

After what started out to be a nice day ended with rain and hail.  You can not see it that well in this photo taken in New Inn Hall looking past St Peter's College but it is actually hailing.  Good job these shoppers had an umbrella with them cause you never know when the weather will turn in Oxford.

Signs Of North Parade Avenue Oxford

What's down North Parade Avenue, well just have a look at the sign on Banbury Road.  Apart from the Post Office which closed about 18 months ago this sign is correct, interesting to see a To Let Sign on the street, advertising a News House for rent at £1500 per month which is good for this area I would think. Couple a Diplomatic Plates in Town today have a look.

Brasenose Lane Bike Rack FULL

Bikes are everywhere in Oxford which is good for the traffic, however then you get into town you can struggle to get a spot for your bike in one of the racks. As you can see in this photo of the Bike Racks in Brasenose Lane these Rack are always full. Handy spot for the colleges in Turl Street and also close to the Covered Market just across the road.

Oxford Closed For Easter

If you are visiting Oxford today you will find alot of the retail outlets closed for Easter, which is a good thing, it allows people to get together and enjoy the day.  There are also lots of other things to do in Oxford apart from Shopping, and I am sure all the Churches in Oxford will be open today.  Hope you have a Happy Easter. Photo is of a notice in the GAP Store in Cornmarket.
