Morris Dancing Day Everywhere In Oxford

Morris Dancers where all over the city centre today. I saw them in the Castle, Cornmarket, Broad Street and I am sure other places around the city entertaining visitors and locals alike. I am not sure if it was a competition or just a day to perform to the masses, but they all looked very colourful and very musical. Many where having there photo's taken with visitors to Oxford, as this form of dancing is very unique to this part of the world.

I've never seen Morris dancing. Your photo captures movement well.

They probably knew you were in the area with the camera!

It was originally supposed to have been the Oxford Folk Festival last weekend, but the event was cancelled due to poor advanced ticket sales.

However the Morris dancing which normally happens at the same time still went ahead on Saturday and Sunday.

If you want to see some more, there will be dozens of Morris sides in Oxford City on May Day morning competing for noise against the bell ringers.
