As I am sure everyone knows that Oxford is a University Town, however I am now so sure visitors know how much power the University has over the City and it's residents. It is only after a few years of living within the City that you start to get a full understanding what it is like to live in a one company town, like Oxford.I feel this photo taken on one of the Gates at Chirst Church College lets everyone know that the Colleges are incharge and should Not Be Obstructed.

Nottingham's the same. The university here sometimes rides roughshod over planning laws etc The've recently finished a big block of student flats which the locals call 'Alcatraz'. we have a lot of overseas students now, which are seen as cash cows.
