Radcliffe Camera from High Street

I am sure that any one who has been to Oxford and seen the Radcliffe Camera will always then associate Oxford and the Camera. It has been in most TV programmes shot in Oxford ie Inspector Morse. This lovely old building was completed in 1749 and is basically a library, unfortunately members of the public are not allowed inside, however the area around it is very nice and you can feel along way from the maddening High Street from where I took this photo. The whole square has just recently been re cobbled and is looking very good, if you are in Oxford make sure you have a walk past this old timer.

Folly Bridge

Just a short walk down stream from Iron Bridge is Folly Bridge. This Bridge is on the Abingdon Road and is a very important Bridge when arriving from the South. Just the other side of this Photo is the Head Of The River Pub and Christ Church Meadows. Lovely old stone Bridge over the River Thames. Posted by Picasa

Iron Bridge

Who would think that 500m from the busy centre of Carfax in Oxford you could find this old fromer railway bridge over the River Thames. This area is very close to the centre of town yet it could be in the country. Oxford is full of surprises, hope you are enjoying my photo's. Posted by Picasa

Leafy Street North Oxford

Leafy Street in Summertown, North Oxford. The trees are starting to drop now, and soon all the leaves will be on the ground. I liked the light under the tress this morning. The day was a little gray however under the coverning of the trees with the leaves a light green it was very light, maybe it was the yellows from the footpath that made it lighter?? Posted by Picasa

5 Kms from Oxford Today

Can you believe it, this photo was taken today less than 5Km from yesterdays photo, in fact Oxford is over that hill, Boars Hill which is East of this photo. You don't have to travel far to get out of the busyness of Oxford, as you can see. Weather was great today also in Oxford. Posted by Picasa

Balliol College Broad Street Oxford

Balliol College in Broad Street Oxford, one of the larger Colleges in Oxford. It is also right in the middle of town in that great space called Broad Street. I am sure that over the next few months I will get a nice shot of all the colleges that make up Oxford University, so please keep popping back. Posted by Picasa

Autumn By the River Thames

The colours of Autumn are now starting to appear in Oxford and I love it. The River Thames is also flowing quiet fast after the rain we have this week. Took this photo yesterday at the end of a small bike ride, I just liked the colour of the leaf so Red. Posted by Picasa

Christ Church Meadow Buildings

Christ Church College Meadow Building taken from the Christ Church Meadows, which runs down to the River Thames. This would have to be one of Oxfords most famous Colleges, as. Christ Church is a unique institution, one of the largest colleges in the University of Oxford and, at the same time, the Cathedral Church for the Diocese of Oxford.

Parts of this college have been used in the Harry Potter Movies, and this make it popular with visitors who are able to tour the College. Posted by Picasa

Oxford City Council

Photo of Oxford City Council buildings at night. I am not sure why the lights are on, maybe the night warden forgot to turn the lights off. It made a nice photo, it is always makes a place look completely different when you see it at night. Posted by Picasa

River Cherwell bu University Parks

University Park, down by the River Cherwell is a very popular place to spend time both on the River or the Park. This photo was taken this summer and you can see the punters on the River. University Park is very close to the city centre, only 10 minutes walk from the High Street Posted by Picasa

Oxford from Headinton

I think this is a classic view of Oxford and the Dream Spires. This photo was taken early in the morning from Headington Hill, looking back towards the city centre with all the colleges and church of Oxford. That crane on the right was working on a new apartment block next to the park, it was a nice pub a couple of weeks ago.

I am still finding my way around this Bloigging and would love a different layout, any tips? Posted by Picasa

Kassam Stadium - Oxford United

The match this afternoon was a one all draw against Altrincham. Oxford United has not lost a game this season and are on the top of there ladder, which is the Conference. They play at the Kassam Stadium, Mr Kassam is the previous owner of the Oxford United Club and I am not sure the fans are too happy that it is still called the Kassam Stadium. Photo was taken in the Summer, will have to pop back up and see if his name is still on the side of the building. Posted by Picasa

High Street Red Box

Sticking to the High Street in Oxford, this shot is of one of our Red Telephone Boxes, a K6 (that is the model number, we have a few designs).

The photo was taken last year in the winter, on one of those nice crisp clear winter days when the light is different than the summer. The photo is looking back up the High Street towards yesterdays position of Carfax. Posted by Picasa

Looking Down The High Street

This shot is looking down the High Street from the top of Carfax Tower. I am told that Oxford’s High Street is a little special as it has a slight bend in it and you can not look down the High Street to see one end to the other.

I like the High Street, as it has lots of independent shops which you don’t see in other High Streets and of course we have a few colleges in the High Street. Posted by Picasa

B480 Cowley

Oxford is not all about Bikes, Students, Colleges and rowing on the River Thames. In Cowley we have the BMW Mini Plant which makes the world famous and loved Mini.

The B480 is the main road from Oxford High Street to Cowley up to BMW Mini Plant.

Anyone been to Oxford and can tell me where this photo was taken? Posted by Picasa

Class System

Bikes and Oxford, I think they always go hand in hand don’t they? You do see many bikes in Oxford however I feel that we could see a little more.

This photo was taken just inside the Bodleian Library, and as you can see this area is reserved for Staff Cycles Only. Who said we did not have a Class System in Britain? Posted by Picasa

Paddle and the Punt

Not really sure about punting? Is it an Oxford tradition or a Cambridge tradition? I know that is popular in both cities. I personally think Oxford has a lot more to offer on the Water than Cambridge.

Photo taken quickly at the punt hire area near Magdalen College just down beside the bridge. Not exactly the best place to hire a punt, the better place is at The Cherwell Boat House. Posted by Picasa

The Price Of Fuel

How can people justify using cars these days, with all the knowledge of climate change and the effects on the environment and yet we still have people driving around in cars. This was the price of fuel in Oxford today per litre, what will be the price on the environment for the excessive use of the engine in the future? Posted by Picasa

Local Press

Great day today in Oxford, starting to get a little cooler which is nice, however the sun was shining all day. Was walking down to the pictures in Jerico this evening and saw these two head lines from the Local Newspapers. We have a local Daily, the Oxford Mail and the other is the Oxford Times out weekly on a Friday. The Oxford Mail keeps everyone up todate on the local events.

Starting to get the hang of this now, hope people are popping in and having a look, I am not sure... Posted by Picasa

We Are Running This City

As I am sure everyone knows that Oxford is a University Town, however I am now so sure visitors know how much power the University has over the City and it's residents. It is only after a few years of living within the City that you start to get a full understanding what it is like to live in a one company town, like Oxford.

I feel this photo taken on one of the Gates at Chirst Church College lets everyone know that the Colleges are incharge and should Not Be Obstructed. Posted by Picasa

Express Train

Photo taken North of city centre on a bridge crossing the main train line from Oxford to Banbury.

Still trying to find my way around this site and I promise you am only just starting to find out about the programme. I need to find out about the times of the postings, as they are coming up wrong. I will look into that tonight. Posted by Picasa

Welcome To Oxford

The first Photo in Oxford Daily Photo's, hope all goes well with the upload etc, not too sure if I am going to get this right the first time. This photo was taken close to the end of the Oxford Canal, and in it you can see parts of the city. It is not a welcoming site, if you were walking in to Oxford from the Train Station, which I am sure a lot of visited to the City do today. Posted by Picasa

Just Starting Out

Just starting on this site, and I am hoping that my first real blog will happen over the next few days or so when I get set up and ready to go.
This evening I have just read the How To Photo Blog, and I am really following the information on this site. I have created an account with Blogger and I am just down loading Picasa2 now.
That will do for tonight I think..
